Crisis Group President and CEO Receives New Year Honour

Comfort Ero, International Crisis Group’s President and CEO, has been appointed as a Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George [CMG] in the UK’s New Year Honours List 2026.

The award is granted by His Majesty King Charles III, in recognition of Comfort’s services to Crisis Response and Conflict Prevention.

“I’m deeply grateful to receive the CMG,” says Comfort. “In an era increasingly afflicted by war and humanitarian crises, this award is testimony to the dedication of my colleagues at the International Crisis Group and our work shaping policies to build a more peaceful world. It’s a privilege to lead an organisation that, in its 30th year, continues to serve as an invaluable global public good.”

Comfort began her tenure as Crisis Group’s President and CEO in December 2021, having first served as West Africa Project Director and Africa Program Director. She has spent her entire career working on, or in, conflict-affected countries.

Under her leadership, Crisis Group has strengthened its reputation as a leading global conflict resolution organisation. Its experts are based across the world in hotspots and influential capitals. They speak to all parties to conflicts in order to produce independent analysis and policy recommendations to help end violence and advocate for change.

The UK New Year Honours List recognises a variety of British citizens, and citizens from the 15 Commonwealth Realms, for their achievements in public life.
