Veer off the frenzy of Mumbai’s Linking Road, enter a building called Cozy Nook, take the elevator up seven floors and enter a soundproofed, sepia-toned cocoon that shuts out the world. A sweeping 6,000 sqft space of marble floors, pale wood and earthy fabrics, Mira Kapoor’s Dhun Wellness is a new space in the heart of Bandra where you can disconnect from the rigours of daily life–and then get right back to it.

Wellness is like a complex carb: it promises long-term health benefits but no one’s quite sure what it is. Popping into a hotel spa in the midst of a food-fuelled holiday? Wellness. Checking into a spartan setup with minimal food intake allowed for a rigid 14-day dosha cleanse? Also wellness.
Somewhere on this wide spectrum sits Dhun. On offer are the indulgent massages and illuminating facials reserved for those treat yo’self days. The signature treatment Tulya, meaning balance, incorporates deep massage, stretching and sound therapy (Rs12,500/90 minutes). The Ethera facial designed by Mariko Hiyama is a 55-minute Japanese lymphatic massage that sculpts and depuffs (Rs12,000/60 minutes). There are also treatments that target inner healing, such as EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique, which eases anxiety and promotes mental clarity through fingertip tapping on energy meridian points (Rs10,000/30minutes). Longer treatments like the week-long gut restoration or women’s dosha balance target specific concerns and aim to bring balance to your life using Ayurvedic techniques like panchakarma, requiring discipline and rigour (Rs1,75,000/7 days).

An experience at Dhun begins with a consultation with Wellness Director Sujit Kumar Gupta, who has worked across the Aman and Six Senses groups in Asia and Europe, and brings a mix of experience to the table. Trained in Ayurveda, he worked at Bombay Hospital before eventually moving back from emergency medicine to holistic sciences. Now, his preventive approach to health has resulted in wellness programs tailored to urban folk with high stress and little time.

“Everyone needs healing,” he tells me, as I place my palm on a patented machine from Taiwan that will use biofeedback to scan my chakras and the colour, size and state of my aura. The Aura and Chakra Scanner Test (Rs10,000/ 15 min) takes an age-old science and presents it in the most modern of ways–on a laptop screen.
Based on my readings, I am prescribed elusive remedies like mindfulness and spirituality, and more tangible quick-fix solutions, like the tension-alleviating Vibrato massage using a personalised dosha-matched oil. Whatever your disposition–skeptic, believer, fence-sitter– there is likely an appropriate therapy to choose from, either technology-led or time-tested.
