Over the past months, the Israeli Knesset has been discussing proposed legislative measures to expand the scope of the death penalty and revive its implementation in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The proposals would enable the commission of multiple violations of international human rights law, customary law and international humanitarian law; and would further entrench Israel’s apartheid system by introducing additional provisions that are designed to be selectively used against Palestinians. Amnesty International urges the authorities of Israel to immediately abandon all plans to adopt the proposed measures and to fully abolish the death penalty instead.
