Tunisian artist Rached Tamboura spent two years in prison after painting a mural in Monastir in July 2023 that depicted President Kais Saied’s face alongside the words “racist, vassal, greed, fascist” in response to the president’s racist remarks about sub-Saharan migrants in February 2023. Authorities prosecuted Rached under Decree-Law 54 and Article 67 of the Penal Code for “insulting the president.” He completed his sentence and was released on 17 July 2025.
